Joe and I have been trying to conceive our first since mid-February of 2014.
In an effort to regulate my cycles before we started trying I stopped taking my birth control pill in December of 2013. I also started charting in January 2014. Fast forward 3 or so months I noticed something was wrong with my cycles. They were SO long and getting longer! The first cycle I charted lasted 29 days (normal for me), the second 46 days, and the third was 84 days! I had a feeling it was something more than just side effects of coming off of birth control about half way through the third cycle.
We took an AMAZING trip to Ireland in April 2014 for our first anniversary/belated honeymoon. I decided that when we got back I would go see my doctor to figure out what was going on.
As I suspected, my OBGYN diagnosed me with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). You can read more about PCOS here.
My doctor put me on 500 mg of Metformin twice a day. I also take Vitamin D, Biotin, Pregnitude, and these prenatal vitamins. To help with thin/thinning hair I’ve been using the Aveda Invati system and drinking as much Spearmint tea as possible. I have noticed some improvement but it has only been a few months so I’m trying to remain optimistic!
And that’s where we currently are! I actually have a follow-up appointment with my OBGYN tomorrow so I’m hoping she’ll have some other things to add into the mix.
